Kaufman High School has a new Ag teacher.

Mr. Perry Dean White majored in Agricultural Education at Tarleton State University.

I love agriculture and have devoted my life to passing that love along to my students and adults as well, he said.

White, 37, lives in Scurry with his wife, Debbie, and three daughters; Erica, 17, Brittany, 11, and Shelbi, 5.

Before coming to KHS, White taught and lived in Bandera, Texas.

It is great so far, I have really enjoyed getting to know the students , White said. The kids have been great and have welcomed me into their lives.

His plans for the rest of the year are to get the FFA up and running.

I bleed Blue and Gold, the FFA is truly in my blood, and I encourage all students to become active and involved, White said.

He has had students earn over $30,000 in scholarships through the FFA.

Its easy if you get involved and quit making excuses, he said.

The FFA is the largest student led organization in the world.

White and the FFA, will start off with the major stock shows and finish up at the Kaufman County Show in April.

He will begin training livestock , dairy cattle, land, dairy products, horse and public speaking teams for this springs Career Development Event Contest.

I believe that students need to explore their options with an open mind, White said. You may not want to learn about tractors or farming-the FFA is not just sows, cows, and plows anymore- its about being leaders and learning where we have come from and having the resources, technology, and want to take us to the next level as leaders of tomorrow.
