If you are a teen mother or a future mother and you need help with raising your child, Teen Mother Of Preschoolers (MOPS) is the a program offered at KHS just for you.

Mrs. Christy Lucas, KHS teacher, helps mothers with children under school age-infancy through kindergarten.

Teen MOPS is a faith-based, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where teen mothers can come together with others who are in the same life situation.

Teen MOPS helps moms to gain confidence, learn about mothering, and grow personally for themselves and with their relationships. Meetings are held every Monday at 4 p.m.

Different topics are discussed every week. The topics range from labor and delivery, to caring for a newborn, to caring after birth.

If you are wondering how you can prevent pregnancy, abstinence is best, Mrs. Lucas said. Wait until you are ready and committed in your relationship with you spouse. The only true way of preventing pregnancy is to wait to have sex, she said.

I realize that some young people are not going to wait and in that case, they need to take responsibility for their actions and use safe measures to protect themselves, Mrs. Lucas strongly encourages.

In this day and age we need to be careful of who we interact with because STDs are very serious. The truth is they are out there. STDs are very scary, and some can be deadly. Last year a local doctor told Mrs. Lucas that Kaufman County had one the highest rates of STDs.

If you have any questions about the MOPS program or would just like to talk, please feel free to contact Mrs. Lucas in room A 7.
